We Get By With a Little Help From Our Friends

Megan from ScarFire Radio here. I'm reaching out with a bit of vulnerability here, and I greatly appreciate the time it'll take you to read this. ScarFire Radio has created a GoFundMe to help us offset some of the costs it takes to "keep the lights on".

Here's what I told the "bio" box on GoFundMe's website:

The pandemic was one of the worst things to happen to the human society within our lifetime. Everybody was severely affected in different ways. Some moved to work from home. Some depended on Stimulus Checks and Government help because suddenly their job was deemed "non-essential". As musicians, we fell into the "non-essential" crew, and we lost our opportunities to make money, and to continue growing our brands. Some of us took that and let it bog us down, while others took it as a challenge. Going from weekly shows to a world of lockdowns, I simply could not sit still. That got me involved with Tiktok, where I started going live for "The Hometown Picks". I would essentially sit on my phone and play my friends' music behind me to help promote my friends. The small following I found through that led me to creating my own podcast - "Where in the World is Megan's New Music?". This project quickly grew from an independent podcast to landing its first spot on internet radio with Unrestricted Radio, based out of Kalamazoo, Michigan. After about a year, URR had to say good-bye to the airwaves, leaving my show without a home. I made the decision to "do it right myself", and in 2022, ScarFire Radio was born.

With the help of some incredible musicians with like-minds, we created our internet radio station from the ground up. Our team has been working diligently to get ourselves into sponsorship spots, vendor events, etc to help promote our brand. These opportunities have taken us to events such as wrestling shows through IWC, Shackshow Wrestling, and PVP. In addition to our ever-interesting adventures to promote ourselves, we have also had the honor and pleasure to work with Steamworks Creative, Scarpaci's and Moondog's Pub to provide on-stage opportunities for the local and not-so-local independent music scene. One of my personal favorite stories to tell is when we had the pleasure of hosting Laura La Valle, a singer/songwriter who was in Pittsburgh visiting from Argentina.

As we continue to grow our brand and expand your music's reach, we have been funding this project completely out of our own pockets. And if you're a musician reading this, you know how difficult it is to stay above water when the gigs won't pay out more than they used to. We want to continue to provide a safe space for musicians from all walks of life to feel heard. I have been in the music industry for 10 years this year, and I have faced a large amount of obstacles and animosity, something I would give my whole self into helping my fellow musician avoid.

We are reaching out to our community to ask for a helping hand in keeping our licenses current and our hosting services paid for. As of right now, we are broadcasting to 12 different countries around the world, and we as a musical community cannot let that go away. Pittsburgh is quickly becoming a music city, and ScarFire Radio has the chance to be at the ground-floor of the excitement -- an adventure we need to take you on with us.

We're all in this together. And we simply cannot thank you enough for your continued support.

If GoFundMe isn't necessarily your jive, we completely understand. In addition to our crowdfunding project through GFM, we are also running a series of ScarFire Radio merch that is custom built for you. With the help of the good folks at Bonfire, we are offering a merch deal in which you can pick your own size, style and color and wear your support on your back.

Whichever way you feel like supporting the cause, we greatly appreciate it. We can't help grow the Worldwide music scene without working together - and we're awfully blessed to be on this ride with you.
